Summer’s here, and I never felt so good! “Summer” is finally released and the vibe is in the air. “Summer” is a downtempo, dreamy electro pop vibe song with enchanting vocals and piano by the talented @selkiewinter, and production, mixing and mastering by your brother, goers. So…let me tell you a little story:

Selkie and I recorded her original song “Summer” I think back in 2019 at her house in Oakland. I can’t even remember if that’s what she had called it now. I recorded the song and brought it home to mix. As I was mixing it I couldn’t help but fall into the vibe and start putting some goers touches on it. I continued to mix and decided I’d have to do a remix and put my own twist on it as there were some parts of the song that completely called to me.

I did a remix and was done probably early 2020. At that point I wanted to get the song out there by summer of 2020, but life happens, Covid happens, and in the flow it didn’t work out. What a blessing! I ended up traveling across the country working on farms with my partner Elysse for the whole of 2020. I brought along my handy Zoom H6 for field recording as I always do when traveling, and it turned out it would play a huge part in the final production of this track!

As I listened more to the remix I found that there were gaps, and missing pieces. The song wasn’t finished. I captured some nature ambiance while in New Mexico, Colorado, Kansas, Tennessee and North Carolina just to remember the sound of life there. Like audible pictures. So I spliced in some nature recordings to the record. Then, we needed some stand up bass. Synth bass wasn’t the feel. So as we travelled through Lawerence, Kansas we stopped at a friend’s spot for a week and in our time exploring there we laid down a couple of bass tracks. We chopped em up, sliced and diced, pampered and fluffed and let them sing their notes creating a new foundation for the song to live on. As usually happens, I sang some baseline ideas, and then let Colby breathe his life into the track. What a baseline it is!

As we traveled through Tennessee we just so happened to work on a farm where our host, farmer Daniel, is a professional fiddler when he’s not tending to the land. For fun one warm July evening on his country porch, I recorded him playing some violin ideas onto “Summer”. I hadn’t intended to add violin to the track, but it was meant to be. Changing up the arrangement a little and adding and subtracting I finally finished the song in early 2021!

This song has travelled from Oakland, Ca all the way to Boston, Mass and back across the country to the middle of the Pacific Ocean to the beautiful island of Kaua’i. I have had such a journey in the creation of this song and I hope the song portrays that to your ears and you can join me in the adventure. Thanks to Colby, Daniel, Elysse and of course Selkie for all playing their parts in bringing this production to fruition.
